Our official name is: BIBLIOTECA PÚBLICA DEL ESTADO-BIBLIOTECA PROVINCIAL DE MÁLAGA (PUBLIC LIBRARY OF THE STATE-PROVINCIAL LIBRARY OF MALAGA)

 

The Biblioteca Pública del Estado-Biblioteca Provincial de Málaga is a state-owned library, managed by the Department of Culture and Historical Heritage of the Andalusian Government through its Territorial Delegation in Malaga.

 

It is integrated into the Spanish Library System, according to Royal Decree 582/1989 May, and into the Andalusian System of Libraries and Documentation Centres, according to Law 16/2003 of 22 December.

 

 

Our main objectives are:

- To satisfy the Reading and information needs of the citizens of Malaga and its province.
- To promote reading.
- To facilitate study and research, learning and continuous training throughout life.
- To be a centre for access to information technologies.
- And to collect, preserve and disseminate the local bibliographic heritage.

As defined in the UNESCO Public Library Manifesto, we are a public service for all citizens, regardless of race, creed, social or economic status, or ideology, which seeks to ensure the exercise of the right to information, culture and reading.
