The library is in a modern building located in the town centre and meets all the needs of an information centre in the 21st century. It was opened in February 2001 after extensive refurbishment carried out by the Ministry of Culture and Sport, under direction of the architect Diego Pérez de Medina.

It has a total of 3192 square metres, of which 1953 square metres are used for library floor space and it is laid out on five floors.
 
 
Basement
 

Holds the main hall with a capacity of 96 seats. It has become an important cultural meeting point within the community and is in constant use. The hall can be booked by filling out a form which is available online through our website, in the online service sections  (In Spanish).

 

Ground floor

 
This is the main floor of the library with a general information point, and the following services:
  • Information desk
  • Lockers
  • Photocopying machine
  • Search stations (OPAC terminals)
  • Circulation desks
  • Self-issue machine
 

First floor

 

Childrens library

Recommended up to 14 years of age. It has:
  • 12 reader seats for small children and 24 seat for juvenile users.
  • 2 computers with Internet access.
  • 2 OPACs.
  • 1 seat for watching video-tapes.
It also houses the book section for parents and teachers ¿Cuidar y Educar¿.
 
 

How the books are organised in the Children's Library?

On the spine of the book you will see a label with some numbers and letters which tell you the shelf the book is kept on.
To help you find the book more easily we have divided the section as follows:

Second floor


Includes the following sections:
 

 

This floor has 30 reader seats, which include confortable armcharis for newspaper and magazine reading and chairs for ready reference of official publications, 4 OPACs (computers for open access to the public catalogue), 2 seats for video-watching and 1 for DVD, 6 seats for listening to CDs and 1 for the microfilm reader.

 

 

Third floor


Houses the Adults Lending Collection on open shelves, where most of the lending books are kept.

On this floor you can also find books published in different languages (Multicultural Library), travel guides and comics.

 

 

Fourth floor


Reading and reference room. It holds in house materials and reference books not available for lending. There are 70 reader seats for students and researchers.

 

 

Fifth floor


Includes the administrative offices and the Head Librarian's office, the computer room and the Department of Library Services of the Province. Find out more in the section About us.
